"I BELIEVE IN PINK! I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles."— Audrey Hepburn

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Every night, friends. You have done what you could. Let it go.

“Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.” ― Ralph Waldo Emerson

Welcome to a Wandering Wednesday...

Well Hi there...I'm just sitting here waiting for my hair to dry and thought...uh oh...it's Wednesday and I haven't wandered in a while...so...here goes...I have to hurry though, it is late and I have to get up for work...We had our first Race Executive meeting tonight and as usual we went to Bahama Breeze afterward. Great time with Great company! Things are changing...they always do...more on that at another time...some new members, some not returning...some phasing out...I will lead my first survivor committee meeting of the year next Monday...how to top last year...and what will this year's theme be??? Any ideas would be appreciated!

Found a new show last night...I think it is called Body of Truth with Dana Delaney... excellent show! Found an old one too...Castle...watched it for the first time...another excellent show!

My trip went very well...Very inspiring...Very pink...Pictures will be posted at another time...there will be a pink Elvis!

I'd love to wander around my mind some more but I really have to get to bed... So Until next time...
Stay Pink!

Happy Pink Saturday!!

I come to you live this week from The Susan G Komen Leadership Conference! That's right, I am once again on the road...and once again, it is a trip that has it's roots in Breast Cancer. This time I am here as a member of the Komen Advocates In Science steering committee. (AIS) We met on Thursday prior to the start of the conference and today the conference began in earnest!

Nancy Brinker addressed the crowd this morning! This is always a treat. Nancy is the founder of Susan G Komen for the Cure. Susan was Nancy's sister and she died of breast cancer at the age of 36 in 1980. Susan G Komen for the Cure was born of Nancy Brinker's promise to her sister, as she lay dying, that she would do everything within her power to eradicate breast cancer...The power of a promise, indeed...

So, here are my contributions for this week's Pink Saturday!! First, for your viewing pleasure, I have a picture of a centerpiece from one of the tables from tonight's Western Night reception...we are in the Fort Worth area after all...we always have a western night where we all dress in western apparel...here are my pink cowboy boots...
Aren't they just the the cutest things?? I have bigger ones but didn't want to pack or carry all that...

Now, I hate to leave you on a sad note but this has to be done...at the Leadership Conference each year among all of the fun and revelry and serious learning and inspiration, there is a wall, or a display if you will...this wall celebrates the lives of those we have lost over the year since we have last been together...I count one of my friends among them...That  is her picture to the right. Becky was a tireless Breast Cancer Advocate and a long time survivor that was diagnosed for a second time late last year and lost her battle with breast cancer in December...We miss you Becky...This is Becky's picture on the wall...

Sobering, among the fun...On a another note...I rarely see so much pink in one place!! It a sight to behold, I cannot describe it! I love to just look around and see all of the pink things...A lot of times, I feel unique in my pinkness...not here!!

Happy Pink Saturday!!

PS! Just must tell you that a large, loud, group of excited teenage girls moved in on my floor last night...go ahead and laugh...

It's Pink Saturday...Won't you join us?

We're back! and Bailey is fine!

Love...
Hi Everyone,
Thank you to all of you that commented on my last post. To those of you that sent condolences and also reassured me, or at least tried to, that our cute little Eskie boy, Bailey would be fine at the kennel. You were right, of course, he was...I can only equate the experience to leaving my daughter at daycare...only somehow worse, because Caitlin had never been abandoned and then rescued just prior to being dropped off.

However, I made sure to give my husband explicit instructions on what to say to them about the situation when he took Bailey in. He explained that we had only rescued him 2 months ago and that he might feel abandoned again...I guess we have done a good job of making him feel very loved...

We had a pretty good weekend despite the reason for our trip. My FIL's cousin's are a delightful couple that have a pre civil war home that is huge and lovely, if not pink. They made us feel very welcome.

When we called to check on Bailey we were told that he was doing fine and that "he is very cute and he is a lot of fun" hmmm, I thought...they sure do know his personality...that's a good sign...

Well, we barely made it to the kennel prior to closing and so had to go straight there...no crate...no lead...Bailey is known to be a poor rider...carsick...I was to hold him on my lap...joy...

Love Squared...
We walked in and they said, "Oh, you're here to pick up Bailey! He is so cute! He had so much fun...He was my lap buddy...He ran up and down with the dogs next to him...he loves to play...He is so cute!...I'll go get him!" All of them were talking at once...He sure made a lot of friends...A woman carried him out...(that did not happen with the others) I heard her tell him..."look who's here!" she put him down and he charged toward us and around and skidded around the floor! It was so fun...We all laughed...His lap buddy came around to say goodbye...she will miss him...They will look forward to seeing little Bailey again in June when we go on vacation and we, OK, I, won't feel nearly as bad about leaving him with the people that have fallen for him just like we have...Bailey is a popular little guy...lol...

Oh, the picture? That's Caitlin and Bailey a while after we arrived home...they are having a love fest...He is just a little sleepy...He may have had a good time...but I think he is glad to be home!

Bailey is a cute little bundle of love!

Stay Pink!

PS, I think he liked riding in my lap on the way home...as someone that tends to suffer from motion sickness myself, I can tell you that being able to see where you are going makes a big difference...Bailey did not throw up on me!!

Happy Pink Saturday!!

Happy Pink Saturday everyone...I am again traveling...this weekend with my little family....My husband's father passed away on March 3rd and they are holding his memorial service this weekend in Virginia. So, we will be driving there from here in Maryland...this involved some wheeling and dealing  on my part as I was scheduled to work this weekend...  I would not say that this is going to be an enjoyable event...

We also have to take little Bailey to the Kennel for the first time...I am very afraid that he will think, that he will believe, that he has been abandoned for a second time! It has only been a couple of months since we rescued him...I am having a very real problem with this...The sign at the right says it all...

this family was in real need after losing Lily and Bailey found us...

So anyway...I am taking my trusty little pink Laptop with me and I will peruse the Pink Saturday posts in my free time to cheer me up! Then on Monday we will rescue Little Bailey again!!

So....HPS Everyone!!!

We can Help!

Hello,

I received this email today, I have decided to pass this on in my blog...I hope you will decide
to read and help...

Today, Susan G. Komen for the Cure founder and CEO Ambassador Nancy G. Brinker called on the world cancer community to help address a looming cancer crisis caused by the nuclear incidents in Japan.  Nancy said that the cancer community has a “vital role to play” and urged global cancer leaders to develop a cancer action plan – today -- for Japan, and for those who may be affected by nuclear incidents today and into the future, wherever they may live.  Susan G. Komen for the Cure will convene a panel of global experts to immediately begin addressing the future cancer risks generated from the Japan incidents and draft a plan of action.

Nancy cited statistics from her tenure on the National Cancer Advisory Board after the Chernobyl accident, an accident that produced the largest group of cancers ever.  After the Three Mile Island accident, there was a 64 percent increase in cancer cases for those who lived within 10 miles of the plant – just in the first five years.

We are asking our vast network of global friends and supporters to sign a petition calling for the release of all information regarding the incident and the potential effects of migrating radiation.  As Japan works to contain the current crisis and provide for the immediate needs of its citizens, we urge the government to partner with the global cancer community to help protect the long term public health of people in Japan and around the world.

Please consider signing this petition and forwarding to others.  The link is www.komen.org/japan.

It"s Pink Saturday!! Only on Sunday!!

Hi there, I know I'm a day late...But it's not my fault...I was away on very important business...not my work, but my life's work...I was in Dallas attending the Translational Breast Cancer Research Consortium (TBCRC) annual face to face meeting of the Patient Advocate Working Group (PAWG). The PAWG met the day before the TBCRC meeting as a whole began, and then we mixed in and attended the other working groups as patient advocates among the research scientists. I attended as the patient advocate representative of The Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Breast Center to the TBCRC.

More on that later in the post...But first, Don't you just love the picture? It takes me away...I also have another one for you...But I will further explain the above endeavor first...The TBCRC is a collaborative effort of Breast cancer centers of excellence from around the country that are working together within this organization to conduct research across organizations in order to come closer to a cure for breast cancer. This cooperative effort with regard to clinical trials and research, enables the centers to enroll the patients needed for participation in trials more quickly and to actually reach the number of people needed to make the research meaningful. These trials are only the research projects that are undertaken by the TBCRC. The TBRC collaborative effort  allows the researchers from these institutions to work together and to bounce ideas off of each other and to come together through two meetings a year and monthly conference calls. Through all of this there are Patient advocate representatives, ideally from each institution involved, that also have an equal voice, that speak for the layman, the patient, if you will...

What I have explained here is a very simplified and hopefully, mostly correct, version of a very complicated organization.

It is a beautiful thing, this organization to which I now belong. I am fortunate to have been selected this past summer to represent Johns Hopkins within the TBCRC.
I consider this to be an honor. I used this meeting to chose
the working groups to which I will belong and those are the calls that I will join each month in addition to the PAWG calls.

So that Ladies is why my contribution to Pink Saturday comes on Sunday! Please forgive me? Oh, the picture at the right? I think our organization is sort of like this...when all is said and done...all of our separate pink efforts will come together to form a beautiful PINK whole! My work on this is done with a group of wonderful, inspiring, intelligent women, and I sometimes look around the table and wonder how I ended up among them...
Don't even get me started on the fact the we walk among the scientists with great respect shown toward us. It is good , it is Pink!

Happy Pink Saturday! Sunday!

PS...Sorry no green...

Blogs, Blogs, and More Blogs!!

I seem to have spent a lot of time this weekend on my trusty little pink laptop...That's right my PINK laptop...did you for one second doubt it? lol...Well, you might ask...what were you doing on said laptop? Well, I am about to tell you...You may have noticed if you scrolled down at all, that I may have gotten just a tad bit carried away with the memes this weekend...I did two on Friday and then my usual Pink one on Saturday. Well, I just couldn't help it! The 5 Question Friday looked like fun and the picture that went with it was really cute! Oh, and I just remembered another one...I also did Aloha Friday...Well, who can resist a Hawaii themed meme? And I thought, well, those all might have mostly youngsters who might not really be  interested in a cool, pink, slightly long in the tooth blogger like me...and so I joined in the usual Follow Friday over 40 meme...Sheesh...Somebody checking me out for the first time might think that I don't even really blog, just meme all over the place...I don't even really know what the word means, for heaven's sake...sigh...

Well, I do blog, see! Here I am ...blogging...even if it is about memeing...so anyway, I then did my special Pink Saturday Meme...A must for all true Pink lovers and a natural for someone with a blog titled Truly Simply Pink, don't you think?

Well, after doing all of that, I proceeded to click on all kinds of links and visit all kinds of blogs all weekend long! I had a blast. It was so much fun to read the different styles. I especially like bloggers with a sense of humor about life and those with pretty and, you guessed it, pink blogs...I found that I like all kinds of blogs from all age groups...It has been such fun commenting and following and seeing if they comment back, and in turn meeting the bloggers. Sometimes they follow back and we have a conversation of sorts! I even gained a new Facebook friend.

I have found a few fellow survivors and some who have family members that are survivors...It is a good way to get ideas for my blog. To learn how to do things better or to learn what you like or don't like...Don't worry I don't borrow, unless invited to. I have a button page here, so if you'd like your button here and I don't have it already, just let me know...I love collecting your buttons...I can't tell you how to make a button because it took me two hours to make mine and that was months ago so who knows if I can do it again...sigh...but feel free to grab it!

Anyway, I have found that, while doing too many memes in one weekend is probably not too cool...blog hopping is a great way to meet new friends with common interests and to find new blogs that you may have an interest in! I highly recommend it!  Oh, I even found that some other meme crazy bloggers have come up with a way to combine them all into one post so as not to appear meme crazy...very clever wouldn't you say? I know I would! Say that I mean...
This is  Bailey... Bailey was by my side the entire time...He is a puppy and he barks at the wind and the rain...it has been very windy and rainy...So he fell asleep...in my slipper!
Cute huh!

I just could not resist throwing that picture in here!
Stay Pink fellow bloggers!

Welcome to a Wandering Wednesday...

Well here I sit and all of a sudden I think YIKES! It's Wednesday! I need to wander...Wander through my mind, that is...yep, that's right, it is time for a Wednesday wander through that complicated and crazy place I like to think of as my mind...One thing that I need to mention is that my DH is on a plane headed to Atlanta. His father is in Hospice...Said hospice has called...the family needs to come ASAP! and keep watch...the end is near...very sad...I hope he is able to arrive in time...

My daughter and I will hold down the fort here...Bailey is playing on the floor while we watch reruns of NCIS and play on our laptops...Already the FB friends are sending well wishes...

Some of you may remember that some time back, I mentioned that my parents decided that they would take a cruise to the Bahamas..My brother and SIL were already taking it...LOL...too funny right? Well apparently they had a great time! And now, my brother has decided that it would be a fun thing for the whole family to go on a Christmas cruise in December of 2012. It does sound fun...I just hope that I can pull it off...you see, I usually have to work at least one of those major holidays...so...another something to worry about...
Well, fellow bloggers, I think I'd better go now because it is a rather sad evening and even though I am enjoying watching  my lovely bright pink nails on the keyboard...I'd better go...

Thanks for tuning in...I promise to try to be more cheerful next time...
Stay Pink!
