"I BELIEVE IN PINK! I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles."— Audrey Hepburn

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Every night, friends. You have done what you could. Let it go.

“Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.” ― Ralph Waldo Emerson

Another year, Another success!

Good Morning...Although most of you won't see this until later than that...My title refers to our local Susan G Komen Race for the Cure. I live in Maryland and I have been involved in some form or another since 1996. That would be the year after my diagnosis in 1995. For many years now, with a short break for a stint as race chair I have been the Survivor tent chair. I have also served as Volunteer chair and teams and other things...
I and my small committee plan all year and the the day before the race is set up day! We work all afternoon to make sure we have the tent all decorated and ready for the thousands that will visit the next day! This year I had the added excitement of passing a few kidney stones Friday morning before work...never a dull moment!

So that is some of us setting up the day before...See the pink pumpkins? Cute, huh? Then Saturday night we bravely voluntered to attend a Crab feast to benefit KomenMD...They offered a table to Survivors...we filled it...only to be at the race at 0500...oh the sacrifices we make for the cause...lol...So here is a little shot of the festivities!

We did have fun...and then I fell...missed a step actually...on the way to the buffet...because I don't actually eat crabs...

This is only one of the results there is also the cracked knee cap and the other various aches and pains...oh well...all in the name of breast cancer, right!?!
On to the race!
Here are a few pictures from that day...

Fun in the Tent

On the Table

All in all it was a good day...It always is...The year can be frustrating< as it can be hard to get people to read and return emails, we have no budget, and I have been doing this labor of love a very long time...My day job has become much more challenging as of late.
There is also the fact that I am very involved in the advocacy side of the breast cancer movement...But I feel that that is a post for another day...
All of that is a very long way to say that this year has been my swan song...It is with mixed feelings that I must say that I am retiring from the leadership of the KomenMD survivor tent.
As Always,
